ESTA Midterm Election Endorsements

Election Day will be here before we know it! Now more than ever, educators need to be heard on Nov. 6. We need to elect candidates that share our values for our students, schools, and our communities. We must stand together for our students, the teaching profession and #VotePublicEd. This is a very important race to us at the state AND local level.

For our local candidates, this election is extremely important that we vote in an educator-friendly ESUHSD school board.

ESTA endorses Kristin Rivers for ESUHSD school board. She is a former educator and an Oak Grove HS parent who is very supportive of our students and profession. We have also endorsed Frank Biehl for re-election. If we're talking about making change & improvements on our schools, classrooms, and profession, now is the time to take action - the action that will dictate our future. It is imperative that we work together to get these candidates in, especially after witnessing the prior year's struggle to settle the contract. A friendly school board will help us with our future contract!

For Santa Clara County Board of Education, ESTA endorses Peter Ortiz and Claudia Rossi. These positions are equally as important when it comes to pushing back charters from our district.

It is also important that we elect Tony Thurmond into the position of State Superintendent of Public Instruction (SPI). He has been extremely supportive of public education, unlike his opponent, Marshall Tuck, who comes from the charter school world. See below for more information.

TONY THURMOND FOR SPI: THE RACE WE CAN'T AFFORD TO MISS. KEEP CORPORATE GREED OUT OF OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS!

More than $10 million from corporate billionaires and Wall Street executives are already flowing to Marshall Tuck, a pro-privatization candidate in the race for California’s Superintendent of Public Instruction (SPI). That number will only go up as we get closer to Election Day. We cannot let corporate billionaires buy this election for Tuck. It’s crucial that we spread the word about public education champion Tony Thurmond to friends and family.
