Again, welcome to the ESTA family!
Here's mine to start off!
I'm Jayson, or Jace, Chang. I'm a social science teacher over at Santa Teresa, currently teaching government/economics and world history. 2 of my world history preps are part of our school's pilot small learning community (SLC) program. It's my first year doing it and I'm very excited about it since I've read a bit about it back in my teacher ed program. I'm also the junior class advisor and FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) chapter advisor.
I just started my second year of teaching and Santa Teresa's been only home. I entered teaching because I wanted to make a difference in our community as cliched as that sounds, especially getting students to understand why history and civics education is important to them. Social justice advocacy is also huge on my list.
I feel like my hobbies outside of my classroom are still related to education. Haha...I'm focused on member engagement at the moment, which explains why I'm starting this. I am ESTA's webmaster and newsletter editor (which we're restarting. Let me know if you want to contribute anything!!!). I'm also Santa Clara County Service Center Council's social media strategist/webmaster. If you don't know what the Service Center Council (SCC) is and would like to learn more, let me know! A part of your dues actually go towards SCCs.
Outside of that, I love to travel and try to make the most of my time for traveling and learning when I'm not focused on the classroom. Oh. I like to eat too...
Nice to meet you folks! Let's connect!
