For
Lawmakers are getting the message and are publicly speaking out against cut=
ting
public school funding. Democratic Senate and Assembly leaders are proposing
closing tax loopholes and increasing revenues. Even the Governor says that
"everything" is on the table, opening the door for closing tax
loopholes for businesses and the rich. GOP leaders have signed a "taxp=
ayer
protection pledge" vowing to oppose and vote against any tax increases=
.
What is CTA doing? CTA's Board of Directors recently approved a State Budget
Crisis Organizing Plan that will lead us through a much different fight tha=
n we
have ever fought before to approve a budget that funds public schools and
colleges, and protects Proposition 98, the minimum school funding law.
The third Budget Watch is attached to keep you informed about what is happe=
ning
with the state budget crisis, to let you know what CTA is doing to protect
funding for public education, and to ask you to help. How can you help?
• While on the CTA website, take a look at our new flash video,
"It Hurts," about how these cuts hurt our schools=
and
email it to friends.
• E-mail
your legislators and encourage them to reject the governor's proposal.<=

• Get involved in a local event in your area!
Thanks for helping to protect our students and our schools.
